Hi all

I dont know if this has already been discussed, but I couldnt find any recent posts dealing with it.

OK heres my question: I interviewed at 2 places, one very good and the other not so good. Now if I were to rank both in the obvious order and if I end up matching only at the #2 place, what happens if I do not join them. I went through a bunch of stuff on the NRMP violations webpage and it sound like they would make it very unpleasant if you do not go through with the acceptance. However, does anyone here have any prior experience? Know a friend that did. Just a few days to go for the ROL deadline. I really appreciate your responses.

You will violate your match contract. Do not rank a place that you do not want to attend if you think scrambling would be a better option.

You seem to be saying that you wouldn't want to train at program #2 if you had the opportunity. If this is the case, there is no reason for you to rank them at all. Just rank the #1 place and hope that you match there. Basically, you have to ask, would you rather go unmatched (and scramble) than end up at this #2 program?

I don't have any experience with this as this is my first (and hopefully last) experience with the match.

As far as I know if you match someplace it is up to the program to release you from the contract. My advice is if you do not want to go to your #2 DON'T RANK THEM. If you match there you may have to bite the bullet and attempt a transfer into an open position later during your PGY 1 or 2.
