Good luck 2010 applicants! I hope Black Monday doesn't let too many people down.
Just a brief memory . . .
March 2003 . . .
I was doing my last "rotation" of medical school, running a PBL group of first year medical students (three mornings a week ain't bad). We had finished group with about half an hour before the Doomsday phone call would come (if badness were to arise). I tried to skeedadle out of the med school and head back to my apartment, but people kept delaying me in the hall. Finally, it was 11 a.m. and I was in the stairs of the parking garage headed to my car. I figured I'd just go ahead and do it. I called the Dean of Students at my med school and asked him to check my match status. He flipped though pages and kept saying "Max . . . Family Medicine, right?" and things like that (he knew me well and knew that I'd only ranked Plastics). It felt like he did this for half an hour . . . it was probably 15 seconds. He finally said, "Hmm . . . well I guess that's the answer . . . looks like you've matched. Go have some drinks and start the celebration." By the time that he said that I was sitting on the stairs in the parking garage with tunnel vision and a roaring in my ears. Seriously. Probably the most stress I've ever felt.
Best!
