Being a DO applicant, I was wondering what percentage of candidates match at their 1st choice of rank list....
My understanding is that if you interview at 10 places, you have more than 95% chance of matching (from MD applicant data).
I guess at this point, I have enough interviews (being a DO, my goal was 12 interviews....)
I already know which place I would rank #1 (not a super competitive program, but I like it and I think i'll be a good fit), and just wanted to know how likely it is for people to go to their #1.
I'd appreciate any input.
Thank you in advance.

The problem with statistics like that is, it is inherently not generalizable. You can't say the OP will have a 60% choice of matching at his/her first choice because the people who took the original poll probably fell all across the competitiveness spectrum, and you do not know where the OP stands on that spectrum. In other words, if 10 posters post on this thread, you could say that 6 out of the 10 would likely get their first choice, and it would be reasonable. But inferring that the OP has a 60% chance of getting his/her first choice would be incorrect interpretation of data.

Very true. It's up to OP to interpret such stats in light of their own competitiveness and how competitive their first choice is.
