So I just took a Kaplan practice test and was wondering how it compared to the actual calculator on the computers during the real DATs.

I got really frustrated trying to multiply or divide decimals to or by other decimals... and when I mean frustrated I mean pissed. I started cussing and hitting the table; yes some people gave me strange looks..

Anyways, the calculator literally would not let me multiply decimals to other decimals or divide decimals by other decimals. Is this the case for the real DATs?

Calculator on the DAT is just as finicky. Only rely on it for division and multiplication were it is really necessary, otherwise it will be much more beneficial to do it yourself.

okay thats not good to hear.

has anyone taken the DAT recently and been able to divide two decimal numbers by eachother or multiply two decimal numbers to eachother?

thats all I really need to know

I have had this same problem with the calculator and decimals. I'm wondering if it is on purpose.

hmm...I don't know why you can't (coz that defeats the purpose of calculators, right?), but for me, there was one difference between the Achiever's Vs. Real DAT's calculator.

For Achievers, you have to punch in everything to get a decimal. Meaning "zero" + "." + "numbers".

For real DAT, you can just type in "." + "numbers" and skip the "zero" part to get a decimal.

As far as operations go, I think both can multiply/divide decimals.

And you know, you can always multiply your numbers by 10^x to erase the decimals, then operate on integers.

I took the DAT yesterday.
The calculator was really bad. It responds slow and the number key doesn't work on the keyboard. I tried the numlock.
If you want 55, then you have to press 5, then pause, then press 5.
I didn't do decimals because I used scientific notation.

the numlock isnt supposed to work. the speed varies based on how lucky you are to get a newer or better computer. I still plan to rely on it because even if its slow; rushing math leads to mistakes and you get an answer thats not presented as a choice. I just hope my calculator will work fast
