What's up,
I'm going into my sophomore year and I'm registered to take Finite next semester. My question to yall is, will finite satisfy the math requirement for Med School or should I switch to calculus instead?

Finite Mathematics, ksmi.

I'm sure you need calculus, OP. Some schools also require Stat.

Looked it up... I think the closest thing we have is "Business 'Calculus.'" It's not really all that calculus-y, I've heard... but yeah, go with the real deal. It's awesome.

They should have Infinite Mathematics. That would be totally awesome.

Most, if not all, math is infinite. And really, how does business calc = finite math. That's the worst name for a math class I've ever heard.

I'm infinite.

At my school, you are either required to take Calc I & II (sciences), or Finite Math and "Survey of Calculus" (business/liberal arts majors)

I don't know if this is helpful, but here is this course description for the Finite Math course:

"Linear equations, matrices, linear programming, sets and counting, probability and statistics."

So, at least to me, it sounds like a mix between linear algebra and statistics.

So IMO the fact that it comes before a survey of Calc. course and taking into account the course description makes me think that Finite Mathmatics =/= calculus.

Granted, this is just at my school (my school does a lot of weird things). It may be different at yours.

^^^ ur description is similar to that of business algebra..if there is such thing :S

answer to all questions will be either negative or positive infinite!

Not to hijack the thread here but... technically you could do math with just the numbers between 0 and 1 and it would still be infinite since there are an infinite amount of numbers in there. You'd never get anywhere near "infinity"

They actually have this thing. For most, it actually isn't too fun. Little thing called calculus. 😉

IMO, I think everyone should take Calc and then Calc-physics. Physics is basically useless without Calculus. I guess I am bitter about this right now because I have to trudge through the physics MCAT reviews that are 100% non-calc based and a bunch of equations that come out of thin air. I got so POed last time I reviewed an MCAT physics book that I had to throw it off my desk...

Kmsi is dead on, calculus calculations and problems are actually very simple. The only difficult part is the actual comprehension and understanding of it. As soon as you make that leap, you would never make

Kmsi, don't feel bad. I had absolutely no clue what finite was until I read this thread eiter.
