how many grams of salt must be added to M grams of a n% salt solution to make it a p% solution?
ans is M(p-n)/(100-p)
any help is greatly appreciated!

this is a mixture problem:

x = grams of salt
salt will be 100% salty

x grams of 100% + M grams of n% = total grams of p%
100x + Mn = (M+x) p
100x - xp = Mp - Mn
x(100 - p) = M ( p-n)
x = M (p-n) / (100 - p)
