Is this a joke? Ladies and gentlemen, the DAT QR will not B this easy.

Being successful on the QR section of the DAT is not just reading the question, doing the calculations, and then selecting the answer you derived. It's just as important to realize when you can use the given answer choices to your advantage instead of working the problem out from scratch. For a problem like this, you could solve it by setting up a system of equations:

x - y = 12 and x + y = 2

Do a little algebra, and you have the answer. However, it's probably faster to just look at the answer choices. There is only ONE answer choice where the integers add up to 2. Therefore, B must be the answer.

actually thats not totally true. the thing about QR reasoning is that you never know how diff or how easy it would be. on my practice tests, some days i would score 24 and someday 15.(my goal was at least 21).

on th ereal DAT, i remember my last question was:
in cup (or penholder or whatever) there are 6 red pens and 4 blk pens. assuming that a person draws a pen at random (without looking), what are the odds of picking a blk pen.

i looked at the time and i had like 20 secs left. you won't believe it, but i just guessed (c which probably was way off and not logical)) because i was affraid of running out of time. LOL

bottom line is, don't get cought up on one question on the DAT. if you can't solve it fats, mark it and move on. you don't wanna miss the last question answer just cuz you ran out of time.

good luck everyone

The correct answer is B.

Let X and Y represent two integers. "Difference indicate subtraction and sum indicate addition. Thus we have two equations: X - Y = 12 and X + Y = 2. Sove these two equations you get 2x = 14 thus X = 7. Then substiute X into either of the two original equations to find Y.
