So as I'm going through Gen Chem in the practice Kaplan, I'm noticing that the calculations are either long or tricky to do long hand. The last time I had to do anything by hand was in the third grade!! Can I expect this on the DAT or will they have more calculations where numbers go in evenly, ect.

Thanks!

If they don't divide nice and clean, you'll probably want to do a healthy amount of rounding. That should get you close enough to the answer that you can pick it out.

I totally agree with vapor. Rounding is the best way to go about these calculations. Using scientific notations can also help the math alot. The more practice with it the better you'll get. The answer should then be around that number that you ended up with in your calculations. Good luck.

You should also adjust your answer based on how you rounded. For example, if the question is 9/20 , you would round it to 10/20 and get .5 as the answer. But since the numerator was rounded up, the answer needs to be a drop lower. The correct answer is .45

first, don't forget that the SNS part is not a math test. practice approximation as much as u can.

second, almost everybody says that the numbers on the DAT are pretty nice and they designed for convience.

third, u not always need to solve the equation in gen chem, u somitimes asked to just set-it up. look at DAT destroyer, it will help you with the math that u need to know and will teach you some good approximation techniques. very recommended bokk for DAT prep.
