What's the maximum number of words for the UCLA Statement of Purpose and Objectives? Is it the SOPHAS 1500? I couldn't seem to find this info anywhere.

Same. I just assumed it was the standard SOPHAS under 1500. The only SPH I saw with strict word count was Yale (<1000).

Where did you see that Yale is <1000? I think it said under two pages somewhere, but I assumed that meant double-spaced...any ideas?

I don't think this was ever stated, since I paid really close attention to details like that. My SOP ended up being a little under 1000 words, and it looked like 1.5 pages single-spaced, but then I guess I'm a wordy person.

If you go to http://publichealth.yale.edu/admissions/faqs.html , it says...

What should be in my personal statement?
Your personal statement should tell the committee about why you have decided to pursue public health. Write about something important to you, or what drives you in the field; explain things that are not immediately apparent in your resume and transcripts. We have no specific directions outside of the SOPHAS application for your statement but strongly recommend limiting the length to less than one and a half pages.

I'd say <1000 is a pretty good rule of thumb. Harvard's is <600 for MPH/ScD/PhD. When I was applying for MPH programs, mine was 650 or so...

Sorry, the <1000 requirement is for PhD.

Ok. Right now, I'm a little over 1100, but I think I'm gonna cut it down to under 1000 just to be safe.

Some schools do post their limits: Harvard SM is 600, Columbia is 500, etc.

I'm at ~800 and U Mich requests ~1500. 1500?! Oy vey! Is this strict? Do they look kindly on skimpers? I don't have another 700 words in me. Maybe 200; not 700.

Quality, not quantity. If they say a max, don't go above it. If you can say what you need to in 500 words, no reason to use 600.
