Mayo Clinic for Neurology

Hi,
I'm just wondering does anyone have any thoughts on or experiences with the Neurology residency program at Mayo Clinic?
Thanks!

It's a very nice program, especially if you want to get into academics or research. There are definitely better places if you want to be a community neurologist in a mid-size town or if you want to work in a very urban area (I didn't get the feel that Rochester MN has a lot of cocaine-induced strokes which is very common in my program's urban county hospital). Many people will go there when their regional tertiary care center is scratching their collective heads, so you will get not just horses but many zebras and even some unicorns, which will be helpful if you end up in tertiary care but not so helpful in the community.

The residency director there came off as very interested in education, down to earth, and approachable. Their neurophys lab is awesome. Actually, all their facilities are top notch. The residents were all nice and helpful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy the program.

Honestly the biggest drawback is location...many people don't even apply there for that reason, but it is only for a finite period of time. One of my mentors did residency there and told me that the less than stellar location was not as big of a deal for her because it gave her more reason to focus on her training.

I personally didn't rank it as high because I want to eventually be in a more urban environment, so give me your poor, your tired, your coke strokes longing to advance to a soft mechanical diet, etc
