did anyone else get an email congratulating them on being "invited to interview at mayo....your rank has been determined and you will be considered for the 2005 admissions" today? it sounds like a waitlist email to me, but they said they wouldn't make any admissions desicions until probably early november when i was up there.

this is just sort of confusing to me, especially after my interviewer gave me some really strong feedback in the interview. 😕

that e-mail is sent to everyone until the next meeting so do not get too worried..once they meet all folks that interviewed prior to that meeting will be notified. Good luck!

I know everyone got the same email, but it just seemed to have a negative tone to me. Someone has said they were accepted to Mayo on the acceptance thread, so I'm guessing I wasn't ranked first. Because Mayo only has "accepted" and "still ranked" lists, I would say that being ranked is pretty much the equivalent of a waitlist. Hopefully, you and I both are not too low on the rankings and get the phonecall/email/snailmail soon.

When I interviewed at Mayo, our group was told that Mayo accepts 5-7 students every Thursday. You will notice that the recent acceptance occurred on Thursday, October 21st, so here's hoping for another round of acceptances on Thursday, October 28th!

I heard from mayo something different-that they accept only a few people per MONTH - 5-7 people every thursday? that seems too often.....

well 5-7 every thursday does seem a bit hit, but maybe they accept people every thursday, which would make some sense since every piece of good news i got from them so far was emailed to me on thursday.

also rereading the letter made me think i may have jumped to conclusions earlier because it says "your position will be considered when appointments are made" which implies either that appointments for my little group have not yet been made or that a big pool of appointments will be made in march.

or maybe i'm reading into this too much. stupid lit classes. 😛

Good point; at that rate, Mayo would accept the 65 people (for a class of 44, see U.S. News) in 9-13 weeks. I must have misunderstood.

Here is some information from the U.S. News Ultimate guide to med schools:

"The admissions committee meets weekly from October through March. A periodic review of all ranked candidates will occur every four to six weeks, at which time several appointment offers are made. Those applicants not receiving appointment during this review will receive notification of their "hold status." During each subsequent periodic review, however, all previously reviewed applicants remain eligible to receive appointment offers."

So, since we know that at least one individual has received an acceptance, does that suggest that the next round of acceptances will not occur for another 4-6 weeks? If so, why haven't some individuals been notified of their "hold" status?

Any other thoughts on the excerpt?

This basically matches the info i was given at my interview....

i was also told that i probably wouldn't hear anything until slightly before Thanksgiving because i was too late for the next decisions (which they said was sometime in late October), and the following decisions wouldn't be made until mid- to late-November. That's why I got all worried about not getting the letter that i've been ranked - people who interviewed later than me seems to have gotten a ranking e-mail.
😕

Hold tight, people, it might be a long wait! Good luck to you all!!!

SDN Love 😍

Guys I received that e-mail and was accepted the first possible day on October 15th last year. Do not assume that just bc you received that e-mail that you will be WL. They just send that to let you know that you are still in the run and until the adcoms meets they will not make any decision...

ok, i called the office today to find out for sure, and it's as efex says. they send that email to let you know that you've been ranked by the admissions committee. this ranking, however, is not a waitlist. it just means that on the next day they accept people, your file will be considered. at that point, you will receive either an acceptance letter or an email saying you are on hold. so bottom line is if you receive this email, you should hear something in mid november.

efex i just PMed you
