I got the e-mail today from Dr. Barrier saying that they are still very interested in my attending mayo, and will notify me if anything changes. I called the office to confirm that this is the "hold" e-mail, and I'll continue to be reviewed. Anyone else in the same boat? This is after interviewing and receiving the ranking notice e-mail. I'm pretty sure Mayo is going to be my number one choice, and am considering writing a Letter of Intent. Anyone know how Mayo looks upon/uses these letters? Any thoughts are appreciated. Best of luck everyone.

Yeah, I got it today too. I just about pissed myself when it began "On behalf of our Admissions Committee, I would like to..." Grr, damn them for getting my hopes up. I wonder if that means that they just sent out a round of acceptances, but we didn't make the first round. Anybody know? I wonder if this means they review them on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. I hope so, cause that means I can anxiously await December 17. Anybody know if that's the schedule? We'll see...

I talked to someone in the Admissions Office, and it sounded like they handed out 5 acceptances for this round and that this was pretty much the first bunch. But I'm not sure what they're schedule is for meeting to offer acceptances, or how many they traditionally offer at a time. Anyone from years past have any experience with this? It would be really nice to know our ranking so we'd know if we have a realistic shot. Anyways, congrats on getting this far pud129, I guess we'll have our fingers crossed from here on out.

I don't think they offer too many each month but probably more than just 5. I know some people that interviewed very early did not here about an acceptance until March. Others were accepted a few weeks after the interview, so it varies greatly. I think that pud129 is right in that that e-mail from Dr. Barrier likely means that they accepted some people and you didn't make the first round.

I don't think sending in an extra letter will hurt you, but I doubt that it helps. I that after the interview, the list is ranked, and this ranking does not change as it is decided upon by the commitee as a whole. Once each month they accept the top people from the list. They definitely like people that like Mayo and are very interested in attending.

hi guys,
just out of curiosity...when did you get the "ranked" e-mails postinterview. I interviewed in late oct and haven't gotten any correspondence since.

i really hope it works out the best for you with mayo!! 🙂 thanks for any info

Loomis,
My interview day was in the third week of october, and I received the ranking e-mail about 2.5 weeks later. The hold e-mail came roughly two weeks after that. I seem to recall them saying that the committee meets about every two weeks to rank applicants, and that acceptances are offered every 4-6 weeks. Hope that helps, good luck.

Thanks for the insight mpp. I know every school looks at LOIs differently, and I don't remember hearing them being mentioned during the interview day. I'm assuming you are a current medical student there. How has your experience been so far? Anyways, thanks for the replies everyone.

I have not received the ranking email. Does Mayo actually give you a number ranking as in 176 out of 2000? Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm also interested in hearing about this. I've been waiting almost a month for the ranking email and I'm starting to get nervous...

Here are the main portions of the body of the e-mail. Maybe this will clear up some questions. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions or need to know something else.
