This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mayo students really really rock the boards, small class size and tons of individual attention, anything is literally at your fingertips (research, opportunity to hang out with world reknown clinicians, overseas projects, etc), Mayo is ranked the number two hospital in the nation (and although some folks say this is irrelevant for medical school I disagree being able to observe during 3rd and 4th year why this is the one of the best is priceless, and being able to learn from those that make it one of the best is even more priceless), the lowest debt of the nation (most med students are on full tuition scholarships those that pay end up with less debt than if they want to a state school), a very diverse student body (from all walks of life, religions, ethnicity, education, etc), and last but not least starting clinicals your second year? can I hear a HELL YEAH!

Why did you choose mayo in the first place?

What do you mean? Why did I apply or why did I decide to go?

Because I hate mustard.

Eh, I got nothing...

Well, I think efex101 hit all the high points. For anyone interested in academic medicine, you also have access to some of the most incredible clinical research facilities in the country. No regrets! If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me!

PS - lol, Mumpu you must really like posting on Mayo threads!

One more thing to add to what efex and agp4 have said...Mayo also has an incredibly cooperative student body (1st year is pass/fail and we are not ranked against one another) and thus it leads to a very noncompetitive/unstressful atmosphere. I'm so glad I chose to come here...PM me if you have specific questions!

Nothing against Mayo. I was actually cooking at the time and just couldn't resist the temptation. 🙂

Money, faculty to student ratio, great board scores, great residency placement, small classes/intimate education, reputation....

A little bit of heaven in Minnesota, if you ask me ... awesome! 🙂

(I'm not there!! I'm just saying ... )

One of my favorite staff docs went there. One of my favorite docs from being a patient teaches there. One of our new interns just came from there. One of my favorite med students in the world is there now. I've yet to meet someone connected to Mayo who is not a decent, good-humored, freakishly intelligent person.

I'm already preparing for disappointment if they don't take me, in the 2007 application cycle.
