Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm not quite sure where to post this question. I applied for SMPs and I got into both Mississippi College (MS) and LSU Shreveport (Bio Sci). I'm having sort of a conundrum and still cannot decide where to attend in the fall. Tuition-wise, it seems that MC is a bit much for out of state. I'm a Kansas resident by the way. Right now, I'm leaning toward LSUS because of the cost but what are the chances of getting into a good medical school in LA after SMP? If I decided to attend MC, are there any good medical schools there? Any suggestions? Also, it would be great if you guys can rate the SMPs for both if anyone has gone there or is still attending (classroom environment, tuition, living costs, program difficulty, etc.). Thanks!

First thing: do you have any ties to LA or surrounding areas? LSUS is essentially only (lifelong) Louisiana residents. Same goes for UMMC (Ole Miss COM). It will be very hard if you choose either one of them. The thing about MC is that it is widely respected.

As for chances of getting accepted into UMMC or LSUS, they aren't good. Your best shot would be Tulane in New Orleans, which has its own SMP.

I am currently attending MC and it has been one of the best decisions I have made! It is a private school so being a MS resident does not lower your tuition by the way. The program is incredibly challenging and the professor expect you to earn your A, and you will work very hard for it. Our building is great and the gross anatomy lab is huge and brand new! A majority of students in the program are Louisiana residents with hopes of getting into LSU-Shreveport/New Orleans and have been specifically told by the Dean of admission of those programs to come to MC and to do well, and many have been accepted! I do know that LSU-shreveport medical school does not accept out of state residents, how ever New Orleans does. I cannot say enough good things about this program! The professors are wonderful and I truly feel incredibly prepared for medical school!
