I know that MCAT in 2013 and 2014 won't include the writing section anymore. That said, does it really matter which year to take it? I was thinking of 2014, so I can let all the kinks get out. I was also thinking so, because I'll be starting my upper division classes in 2013 (ex. Biochemistry, anatomy) and they will most likely help develop my critical thinking skills and learn more about molecular biology.

What do you guys think?

well when do you want to apply?

the best answer is to take the mcat when you are ready.

We already have one of these threads on the front page: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=925277.

If I'm reading it right, that thread is on the new 2015 MCAT. The poster was asking about the 2013 vs. 2014 MCAT, which won't have the writing section on them (but also won't include the new humanities section). In place of writing, there will be a trial section in 2013 and 2014.

I'd say take it when you're ready. If you feel ready in 2013 and can devote time to studying, go for it. That way if you feel the need to re-take the exam or if you feel better prepared after taking some upper level classes, you can always sign up for 2014.

As far as I know, there won't be any changes between the 2013 and 2014 versions of the exam. So I really don't think you should delay for the reason of letting them 'get all the kinks out.'

Hope that helps!
