Not to be the bearer of bad news but with a 24M I don't really see MD working out this cycle.... Have you thought about retaking the MCAT yet? Your GPA is really nice so a good retake would make a big difference for you.

You'll need an MCAT retake. Also, you're applying very late....

would be smarter for me to apply to do now or just go to the carribeans?

If it were me, I'd retake the MCAT next spring (after intensive studying) and apply next summer (early June).
I wouldn't go to the Caribbean with a good gpa like yours.

Retake Mcat to 30+. apply next year. go to md. dance.

the problem is this is my fourth year and that means I will have to wait out another year. I am hoping some how miraculously i get a chance at some medical school. I have alot of EC and volunteering along with that high gpa. Am just hoping that some school takes a flyer on me. if i somehow could go to interview i think i might be able to convince them.

Why are you worried about sitting out one year?

Also, I wouldn't count on any school taking a flyer on you....

Schools aren't going to take a chance one you. They have thousands of apps that they don't have to take a chance on, so you really are wasting your money. The problem is, you have an easy fix. Your mcat. Retake it, do well, and you will get an acceptance next year. At this point, you are probably too late for DO schools. Maybe not though. It is your senior year. No big deal if you take a year off. Many people do. You are in a big hurry and will try to go carribean to save time, but in your position, I guarantee it isn't worth it.

So, is everyone saying that he doesn't have a shot at any DO schools either? I'm not an expert just sort of in a similar boat and want to know if DO is out of reach also with a 24 and strong GPA.

It isn't that he doesnt have a shot at all, but by the time everything gets verified, it could be December, so the app needs to be awesome because the interview slots are likely for February or later, so by the time one could be interviewing for wait list spots. Early next season with a good gpa could probably get an acceptance somewhere, but it is still a low mcat.

I think that DO is within reach with the OP's stats, though not with nearly as good a chance if the application is submitted this late in the season and without previous exploration of DO as an option.

@Aminur: what were your practice scores before you took the MCAT? What were your subscores on the actual test?

So you would prefer to go to the Caribbean rather than retake the MCAT and apply next year? Come on. 🙄

OP should be moderately competetive for DO schools. His 24 MCAT is below the bar for my school, but is OK for many others.

So, OP, do NOT apply Carribean! Just retake MCAT, and if you can pull >30, you''re fine for MD schools. >25, and you're fine for DO schools.

Good luck!
