Hi-

I'm applying to both D.O. schools and M.D. schools. Other information:
-Working for 2 years in clinical research (1 year with direct patient interaction with Alzheimer's patients)
-EMT certified
-Volunteer at free medical clinic
-Shadow D.O. in stroke neurology & M.D.'s in ER
-Working on a publication with a doctor right now
-Organic chem research and molecular bio research
-Editor-in-Chief in college
-Major was Chemistry and a few advanced O-Chem courses hurt my GPA

Schools: (SC resident)
-MUSC, USC, USC-Greenville
-Touro-NY, Touro-CA, NOVA, ATSU-SOMA, LECOM-Bradenton, VCOM-CC

Waiting on apps to be verified and wanting feedback on my school choice list. Many thanks!

You're probably sunk for MD, sorry to say. Your cGPA is on the low end of MD and would be only salvageable with a high MCAT, which you dont have. Actually if you had a much much better cGPA (say 3.8 or higher) you would still have an uphill battle for MD schools with an MCAT of 27. Your ECs are good but not enough to save you for MD.

On the other hand, you're a strong DO applicant. Your GPA is mid range for DO, could be a little higher but is fine. Your MCAT is right in the wheel house for DO, so I think that's your best bet.

I'm not familiar with those in state schools, but check with MSAR to see their bottom 10% stats and compare to yours, but I'm quite confident the MD stats wont be low enough. That being said, I think you're doing the right thing applying to those MD schools, because they just might take a liking to you, but my above comment was just to be realistic and say "don't count on it."

Good luck.
