So, Im taking the april mcat in less than two weeks ( 😱 ) and I feel grossly unprepared (not able to study much with a killer full load + part time work). Anyways, Ive resigned to take it anyways and see what happens (i am generally a good test-taker). I know that you can fill out you apps and even some secondaries before August, even if my score isnt so hot. But how do I prevent schools from trashing my app before my August mcat comes back? I mean, should I withhold my scores (even tho. I already signed up and did not choose this option) or what?
argh!

Schools will not trash your app if you indicate on your AMCAS and/or AACOMAS application that you plan to retake the MCAT in August. I got a 22 on my April test but put that I planned to retake. I did not receive a single rejection until after my August scores were posted (I got a 23 in August, so the rejections started really rolling in, in October!). If your April score is low, you will likely get alot of "your application is on hold pending your August score" notices from schools. However, if your score is higher, many schools will go ahead and process your application anyway. So you may still receive some secondaries (and possibly even interviews) before your August score is posted. Good luck!

You can prepare your AACOMAS application in full and wait until the night that the MCAT scores come in on the website (some time in June which is still very early) to hit send. That is what I did and I had an acceptance in August. If the score is low you might as well wait until August to apply.
