hey guys,

i was just wondering if you do poorly on the mcat (like 25) and have an average gpa , but you still get accepted into med school, will you do poorly on the boards? in med school? why are the boards so tough?

thanks a lot,
jasveen

the boards and the MCAT are really different. maybe of my friends who are 3 years say the MCAT is a lot harder because no matter how much u prepare u can still do bad. the boards are a lot more about studying hard and memorizing. even with that kind of score u can still do well. just becoming trained. the med school chooses you because they have faith in you to do well on the boards. doing well meaning pass. so if they see it in you, go for it! gluck

The boards and MCAT are 2 very different tests and aren't really compareable. Boards are much more knowledge based and there is a lot more you can do to prepare for them. Good test taking skill are important in both though. If you are concerned I would really focus on that because if you are a poor test take it won't matter how well you know the material.

Guys - the tests may be different, but adcoms weight the MCAT the way they do because there is a strong correlation between a good MCAT score and passing the boards the first time around. So, for the OP - you might do well on your boards, but you're much more likely to do well on them if you did well on the MCAT.

Th Op is not worried about getting in. The question was wether your MCAT has any correlation with your BOARDS perfomance once you've been accepted. On a personal note i know someone who had a 25 on the MCAT and scored a 245 (national average = 217) on step 1. So just looking at the percentile rankings, its a huge leap.

thanks for all the replies guys. im just worried that i am going to be a horrible doctor because my mcat mark sucks. but i think if i work hard i should be able to do well. hopefully if i put in the effort i will get the rewards. unlike some classes or majors 😛

Is there a website or data source that compares how medical schools do on average on the boards...i would like to see how all my schools measure up...
