Anyone ever been or currently find themselves in my position? I'm still holding on to hope for interviews at a couple of schools. At the same time, though, if I don't get in, my application for next year could definitely benefit from re-taking the MCAT next month. I'm already late so I'm going to have to pay the late fee but I'm just cringing at the thought of registering for the MCAT and then getting an interview and an acceptance after doing so. That's a lot of money for me right now to go to waste. Thanks in advance.

Just do it. If you get an interview, in the long run the amount spent is very small compared to the overall scheme of things. Plus then you will have your butt covered if you dont get an intervew and an acceptance and you will be ahead for the next application cycle by having taken the MCAT early. Good luck :luck:

If you think that re-taking the MCAT would be benificial, then do so. However, I am concerned about the fact that you are considering taking it now and it is only a month away if you have not already done some serious studying.

The point in re-taking the MCAT is to improve your score...if you are not nearly positive that you score is going to increase enough to make a difference...don't retake now. You can always retake in August after you have had time to study for it the right way (and just put on your application that you submit in June that you are retaking in Aug...some schools will interview before your last MCAT is officially in and just not decide til they get the score).

Good luck!

I have no doubt in my mind that I will improve on my score this time around. Probably pretty significantly. I took it last April without having taken either my o-chem or physics series (I know, it sounds nuts)! I'm just finishing up part II of both right now and feel quite confident about the things I've learned since last April.

Then I would sign up asap...and start spending all of your spare time doing practice MCATS...just to make sure you are up to date on everything and to work on improving that verbal section.

Regardless, med school will put most of us about 200K in debt...it is worth putting forth the $$ to re-take the MCAT as a 'just in case.'

I say that you should be prepared to take the April MCAT and if you get accepted before that date, then get a refund. If you get accepted after you take it, then you know that you improved. If you do not get in, then you have the opportunity to apply early in the cycle with an improved MCAT score. In a nutshell, take the April MCAT. Hope you do well.
