Where are you taking your MCAT prep class? I looked into Kaplan and they have classroom and individual tutoring....what are you doing to prepare for MCAT???

I'm taking the Kaplan class right now. The time in the classroom is useless, the test library is where you get your money's worth. Well maybe not completely worth the money, $1400 is too much to pay anyway, but i think it's helped me. Whatever you do, DON'T pay for individual tutoring. It is a waste of time. You can find everything you need to know in the books they give you. You might try just finding tests and books from a friend, or on ebay and save yourself some serious cash you can use for application fees.

Don't waste your money on the MCAT class. If you know how to study on your own just do that. The best study aids are to go to the AAMC web page and order all of their actual MCATs that they have available. Also, get the additional questions that they have available. And again, don't waste your money on Kaplan. If you have the ability to study on your own and religiously take a practice test every saturday before the actual MCAT you will do better than most people taking Kaplan, trust me, I did.

I took Kaplan--everything here is true to my experience. The classroom lectures were a waste of time--the teaching quality was very spotty. The videotapes were also rather variable in quality. Where I got the best use out of the course was the five full-length practice tests because they gave me a pretty good indication of how I'd do on the real thing. And I was within 3 points of my actual score. I think the practice question bank is also very useful because you get exposure to MCAT-style questions.

It also depends on where you are located. If you are in California, you should look into Berkeley Review. They have EXCELLENT instructors, lots of materials, and their practice exams humble you...preparing you that much more for the real thing. It's about 300 dollars cheaper than Kaplan too.

KAPLAN = CRAP

i agree with the above poster....in CA Berkeley Review is the best option.....

As far as not doing an MCAT prep course, well that is just not the smartest choice.

Yes you don't have to enroll in one, but why would you want to risk not giving yourself every advantage possible? A majority of students take a prep course, and if you forego that option, then you may be handicapping yourself. Taking a review course definitely will not lower your score, and even if it only helps a little, then you still are better off.

Find someone who has taken princeton review, berkley review and kaplan and buy their old materials. Study on your own, and do as many questions as possible. Also get the aamc practice mcats 1-6 and do those. Paying for a review class and going to those lecture is a waste of time.
