I only got a 22O on the MCAT. I plan on retaking in January and updating the schools, for those who will consider it. On the secondaries I'm not sure if I should mention retaking or not. I really don't want to be put on hold until February but I also don't want to be rejected outright because of my MCAT score. What would you do?

If you are definitely going to take the MCAT in Jan. then do put this on your secondary. If your still not sure whether or not you are going to take it, I would leave it out and emphasize your strengths, then pleasantly surprise them. Remember most med schools try to have most of there spots filled by Jan., so don't hurt your chances by giving them any reason to hold your app. Good luck:luck::luck:

Thanks! I'm not absolutely sure because if the by the grace of God someone will give me a chance with my current MCAT score then I may not need to take it again. I'm leaning towards needing to take it though, hopefully just to get me off a waitlist rather than to get interviews in the first place.

I have read on SDN that retaking the MCAT does not affect your wait list standing at some schools.

I guess in that case there's no point in mentioning it then. Are you getting tired of my questions yet Jpc, because I'm sure I'm just getting started. 😀

I wouldn't mention it. It will really hold up your application at some schools. I know in the allo arena, none of them will look at my application since I've indicated I'm retaking until I've got my 2nd scores back.

Thanks megboo. So you decided to go ahead with the retake? I'm just going to leave off that I might retake. My husband says I shouldn't mention it because I don't want to call too much attention to my MCAT score.

Yeah, I bit the bullet. I was still on the fence as of 11am yesterday, so my mom pretty much forced me into the car and left me there while she went shopping so I wouldn't back out. Lame, I know, but I was so worried I might do worse!

But then again, I could do the same or better, and it was worth the chance. I didn't tell the DO schools about the retake because like I said I wasn't sure until test day that I was retaking 😱

I left it off for this reason AND I for what your hubby said (mine said the same). LOL!

That's hilarious! Talk about last minute decision right? Well I guess in a month you can either hug your mom or curse her.

Of course you will do better. If you just work to practice on VR a lot, that's 10 free points right there. Pull a couple 8's and you're good to go.

It's supposed to be easier to pull up your science scores right? I hope so because those were my weak areas on this past MCAT.

Just read a lot, and practice passages.

On my first Princeton Review practice MCAT, I got a 6. I got an examcrackers book of VR passages and started doing a full-length test almost every day. I got other books and kept doing the same thing, and timing myself. I got to where I could finish all the passages every time, and I was getting 10-13 on the practice tests. Got an 11 on the real one.

I could stand to improve my verbal some but it was my highest section with a 9. I think my science sections suffered because I studied the content but not really the application. I didn't really practice problems and only took a couple practice tests. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to improve my studying for the science sections.

Also remember not all schools will accept the january scores too. Your score won't be released until the end of Feburary (the latest if they don't have teh 14 day release down which I DOUBT they will at their current batting avg the past few releases 🙄 ).

Well I'm hoping that although some schools won't take the January MCAT maybe they will consider a new score as an update. In the meantime I won't be mentioning that I plan on retaking so my application will be looked at with my current MCAT score. Hopefully too many schools won't just outright reject me.

Some don't consider an update either so make sure you check the school. I think this is more allo than osteo but just check and make sure. Someone else posted a similar predicament in the MCAT forum I think.

Thanks! I will check into it and keep my fingers crossed.
