Hey guys, I have posted on here before- I finished my first year of med school this past June and decided that dental school would be better for me.... and I've heard from an advisor from my med school and from a friend of mine who teaches for Kaplan (she attended the same med school as I did) that some dental schools will actually accept MCAT scores in place of DAT scores.... I was just wondering if anyone here knows of any such schools- thanks 🙂

Nope. No such school. You must take DAT.

There is no way that dental schools would accept the MCAT in place of the DATs. While it's true that the DATs test the basic sciences and reading comp like the MCATs, certain things from the DATs are not tested in the MCATs, like quantitative reasoning and PAT (perceptual ability).

These two areas, especially PAT are invaluable for D schools to determine the qualific. of dental applicants. Ie, what's worse than a dental student/dentist who can't visualize the mouth and its components?

you have been drinking too much cheap alcohol.

no.

You shouldn't have too much of a problem with the DAT if you have taken the MCAT. Just review the same materials minus physics. Also, brush up on some plant bio and photosynthesis material.

On top of that, you will probably do stellar on bio since you were in med school.

I've known people who have either gone part way through or even finish med school, then decide to do dental. Nope, you still have to the DAT.

If you've taken the MCAT, and have been through 1 year of med school, you have nothing to worry about. The DATs will be a cake walk for you.

What you could do is apply for advanced standing at some dental schools (Because you pretty much completed most of the science classes that D1 students take..i think..). You may have to finish your second year at med school though. I am pretty sure Columbia and Stony Brook both have advance standing at their dental schools.
Hope that helps.
