Long story short: I need to retake the MCAT because of an awful score I received yesterday. I'm upset right now and will take a few days to process and get my mind off of it.

For those that retook it, how did you change your mindset and get back into the grind of studying? Applying to medical school has been my dream and I know I'm capable of doing so much better on this test.

Take a month.

No seriously. Forget the MCAT. It's in the past now. All those things you've been putting off because of MCAT prep, go do those things. Go back to the gym, go back to eating healthier. Reconnect with friends who had things and events during your prep period and catch up. DVRed a bunch of TV? Watch em!

After a month, come back and we'll help you. But this detoxification and unwinding is crucial to your success during the next MCAT grind.

In addition to this comment. You should figure out why you didn't do so well. Was it content or not knowing how to take the exam or both? Try spatial + active learning. Take more practice full lengths. Which section did you have the hardest time with and try to work on it. As long as you're willing to put the effort into next time you'll do better.

Honestly you've already taken a month break, you should have relaxed plenty while your MCAT was being graded. I think you should study ASAP, and then book a test date AFTER you are sure you are scoring in the range you want

That's what I'm thinking too. To save myself some money and another headache, I will register once I'm getting the score I like.

Took the MCAT 5/13/17 and got a 502. I was completely devastated... for one day. Best advice I've ever gotten was from a surgeon I shadowed. Give yourself 24 hours, cry, yell, be mad, feel bad for yourself, feel like the world is against you. Then move on. Keep hammering away at it.
Retook on 3/24/18 and got a 515. Feel free to reach out to me and I can give you some more personalized feedback.
