I applied late this cycle and I didn't get any interviews. I took the MCAT last July and got a 30(10-phy 9-verbal 11-bio). I was thinking about retaking the MCAT this summer, but I don't know how medical schools view the retake. If I submit my applications as early as possible, but decide to take the MCAT at the end of august, will medical schools wait until that score to make a decision or will they give an interview invite if they are already okay with the 30 MCAT?

The only reason that I want to retake it is because the school that I really want to go to has a higher MCAT range. However, I would be okay with going to other medical schools if I got in somewhere.

Dont retake. You risk getting a lower score thus regressing your app. Your number 1 mistake was applying late. I did it too and only got 1 interview. Your odds decrease substantially when applying late. Make your app better by doing more EC/finish school work or get a full-time job. Finally next June have your app ready to go. Meaning transcripts are in, LOR are mailed and AMCAS info is filled.

Agreed, you will do yourself a bigger favor by applying earlier and find ways to improve your app; if you have a competitive gpa, your mcat is just fine!

100% agree!

Thanks, I have a 3.61 gpa and my science gpa is around a 3.56 so a little bit below average

Only retake if you can realistically score 3+ points above your current score. If you retake and get the same score, or if you retake and get a worse score, it looks like you have poor judgement.

Would his situation still be the same if someone got a balanced 29 or two 30s, as in retook for another 30?

Just curious to see how people interpret the difference between these two scores.

sorry I didn't mean to change the topic
