Hey guys,

so I am a canadian citizen, attending a canadian university.

I wrote my mcat last summer, and didn't do as well (low VR), so I will have to re-write my mcat

I only applied to Ontario schools this year, but if I don't get in this year, I am definately applying to US schools.

I know that you have to submit AMCAS in like June-July, but when should you write your MCAT in order to be an EARLY applicant? I was thinking maybe early/late june or maybe march??

BTW, I have ~4.0 GPA and 1-2 publications pending by next year with really great EC's

Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate it

I assume I could replace the word "write" with "take" and by "early/late june" you meant "early/late April".

Either way, take it in January, March, or April if you want very early verification. May is also doable but will set you back until July-ish, which is still early.

EDIT: Also, I'm so glad you are so intent on being early. It makes all the difference. Way to go! Best of luck!

I took mine May 5th and was verified late June. No one will look at your app til August, so as long as you're verified and submit your secondaries before August 1st you're guaranteed to be in the first batch reviewed. I'd personally recommend a January test date and re-taking in the Spring (April or May) if your score isn't what you want....gives you time to consider your score and then study and re-write it if you want to improve. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys!

How do people write their MCAT during school year? I have finals in May, so I can't see myself write the MCAT at that time or even during school year.

Also, I personally think that I need at least 5 months to improve my VR score >10. So I don't think I could write in January. Plus, Ive already written my MCAT so I writing the MCAT for the 3rd time would not be an option.

Do you guys think writing the MCAT early June would be the latest date, and still be considered as an early applicant?

Thanks so much again!!

Yes. And doing it during the school-year is what the majority of applicants do. The majority of the work for the MCAT is in the preparation. If you retake in June, you would have hopefully been preparing way earlier (going back into the school-year) in order to achieve your desired score. So either way, taking the MCAT is going to take some significant effort during the school-year.

Hope this helps!

I think there needs to be some clarification. What do you mean by "write"? BBender assumed this meant "take", but if you could clarify, that would help.

If you are talking about taking the MCAT, taking it in June should be the latest if you want to apply early, because you would get the grade in July and be able to receive secondaries pretty soon after.

If you are talking about "writing" the AMCAS application, then writing it up in June is pretty early, but could be earlier. If you have applied once and used the AMCAS, then you should be able to write up the second one pretty easily, just adding whatever is new.

Sorry for the confusion :s in canada you say you "write" the MCAT not take lol

SO I mean taking the MCAT.

As for the AMCAS, what do you have to do, other than writting a personal statement? Can I work on it early next year, i.e. January?

Could anyone please give me a detailed info about the AMCAS application process? Thanks so much guys!

The majority of the AMCAS is essentially writing a personal statement (takes the longest amount of time if done right), writing a description/bullet-points (infinite debate on SDN as to which to do) for each extracurricular activity, and entering all coursework manually. Everything else is pretty basic (bio info, ethnicity, veteran status, LOR details, etc.).
