So I am currently sitting at the UC Davis pre-health conference and have been thinking a lot about taking a Kaplan Test prep course as they are offering huge discounts.
My questions is, for those that have taken a Kaplan course or any other test prep course, how beneficial was it? Is it beneficial for the practice tests and other materials or can I get by with just looking online?
This might be better suited in the MCAT specific forum, but I took the Kaplan on demand course and it was helpful. The best part about Kaplan is the 11 full length, a half length, access to all AAMC's practice material, and tons of practice questions. The content review is good, but it's not complete for psych/soc so I used khan academy for that. If you can get a big discount I'd definitely say it's worthwhile for all the practice material they give you.
The best way to do well on the MCAT is to do lots of MCAT style practice. Kaplan is good for that.
I've noticed that a lot of people who spend 2k on a fancy course end up not using it and bombing the test. Turns out, the amount you get out of a course is equal to the amount of effort you put in.
So if you're gonna spend money on a course, use it.
@Spinach Dip absolutely, I plan on sticking to a schedule I saw on this site for studying and using the Kaplan course to just give me pointers and strategies tailored specifically for MCAT. I am not worried about the content and knowing it, I'm more focused on training myself to think like the MCAT. I also like their abundance of testing materials they offer
@xyphr the main think drawing me to Kaplan, the discount is pretty good and I haven't really seen any other discounts for Princeton or anything else :/
