Could anyone put the USMLE or the COMLEX step I's into a more tangible perspective for me? I'd appreciate any opinions, and it doesn't have to be scientific. For example, a ____ MCAT would be like scoring a ____ on the USMLE, or a ____ on the COMLEX, etc.

USMLE.org doesn't provide percentile data as of 1999 due to a cohort variation effect. I also cant obtain percentile data for the COMLEX.

The MCAT has little to do with either USMLE or COMLEX score. I am living proof of that. They are different tests which emphasize and test different things.

I completely agree with the above. I did below avg. on the MCAT, got into my state medical school, studied my ass off for 2 years and did well above avg. on USMLE step I.

I score just slightly above avg on MCAT and blew both USMLE step 1 and COMLEX level 1 out of the water. If one was to scrutinize the mcat I think the majority would agree that the biological sciences section is the only reliable predictor of performance being that biological sciences represents material that is covered in the first 2 years of medical school. In any case that argument holds true for me.

My MCAT was so low I'm embarassed to post it. Comlex was good to me (70%th percentile) and the USMLE was still good to me even though I wasn't totally pleased with my score. MCAT doesn't tell you much about board scores.

all i think the poster wants to know is like- a usmle of 260 has the "wow" factor of an mcat like a 37. or a 260 and a 37 are both roughly 90th percentile scores etc. I am making those numbers up but that is the info they are after not whether or not they correlate

A 260 on the USMLE is 2 sd above the mean and I would equate it with the same wow factor as someone getting a 40 on the MCAT. Of course there is no correlation between the MCAT and Step 1 since I took the MCAT 2x and pretty much rocked Step 1. 😀

a 25-40 MCAT would be like scoring a 185-265 on the USMLE

and that is with a p<0.05. So my figures are statistically correct.
