I read somewhere online that there was a study that shows correlation between students' MCAT VR score and the USMLE score. Any insight on this? For those who are studying or have taken the USMLE step 1, please let me know what do think. Is there anyone out there with a crappy MCAT VR score but did amazingly well on the USMLE, perhaps 85, 90+ %tile?

Here's a wikipedia article that references a study addressing your questions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCAT

Text highlight: "The Biological Sciences section most directly correlates to success on the USMLE Step 1 exam, with a correlation coefficient of .553 vs .491 for Physical Sciences and .397 for Verbal Reasoning."

Hope that puts you at ease.

I got a 9 on verbal and did pretty good on step 1.

Interesting numbers. Of all the random and notsorandom things I've Wikipedia'd at 4am, the MCAT was not one of them.

On the MCAT I had my lowest score on verbal, but it was a 12

crushed step 1

I wouldn't sweat it -- there will be many individuals who buck the trend despite any claimed correlation. Also bear in mind that both the MCAT and USMLE have undergone pretty substantial changes since the dates of these studies, as have med school curricula and admissions (higher numbers, more women, nontrads and nonsci types), so it would be hard to know if such a correlation even still exists.
