My roommate Is studying to be a dentist and I'm doing MD. We both plan on appyling next cycle. Does anyone know the major differences between the two since we will both be studying at the same time for the tests. As far as test content I suppose.
He/She has is easier since there is no physics. That's pretty big. And no writing for her either, which no one really studies for anyway. Also, our verbal is alot different. Finally, the structure is different and you have to approach each test differently and with different strategies.

My knowledge is not extensive about the DAT, but I have taken the MCAT and tutored a student for the DAT so I can provide a little insight. The DAT contains math, perceptual ability, and reading comprehension which conceptually are different from anything on the MCAT. The MCAT contains physics and verbal reasoning which is different than anything seen on the DAT.
The science sections of the DAT (General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biology) are conceptually similar to what content will be on the MCAT, but are much simpler in terms of how the questions are presented. The DAT will ask you very straight-forward questions such as the location of the production of rRNA, whereas the MCAT requires much more reasoning to accurately answers its questions.
The MCAT is completely passage based while the DAT just asks concept multiple choice questions. The DAT doesn't contain any essay, and the MCAT contains two essays in which your ability to formulate and present concise arguments is tested. Hope this helps a little bit, anymore questions feel free to ask.
