I also would like to hear some comment about such a case that is supported by only either MCAT or GPA. Two different applicants have just been accepted by Tulane. (Congrat to both of them.) One is 35/3.4? the other <30/?. Assuming that everything else is equal, how does an Adcom evaluate these two applicants with lopsided credentials?
Looks like anyone of them, Chanel or Dior, will do.
That's my concern. I'm currently sporting the 3.3/40T lopsided crap. My biggest fear is that they would think that I just studied for the MCAT, did a Kaplan-type dealie, and blew off my classes. I swear, man, it ain't like that!
I wish that the "they add points to your GPA if you go to a rough undergrad school" rumors were true. 🙁

Even I (or should I say especially I?)do have a tough time to think otherwise. Anyway, the skills that earned you the T will always save you. Don't forget NYU just in case. It is probably the only one place that promises to credit a strong finish in the late rounds. But you might have to masquerade anything that is blue or blonde though. 🙂
Good luck.
A strong MCAT will help compensate for a low GPA, but not vice versa. There's research on the AAMC site that shows a higher correlation between MCAT and medical school performance than GPA and medical school performance, so most schools use the MCAT as a better predictor of future success.
A few schools give you an explicit numerical GPA bonus from coming from certain "rigorous" undergraduate institutions, but it's rare.
