I'm a Canadian student looking to apply for January 2009 admissions into 1 of the Caribbean schools. I have all my pre-reqs; I just need to write a GRE or MCAT. Which do you think would be easier? I know no exams are easy, but I've been out of undergrad since 2005 and just finished a M.Sc. so my science knowledge (other than molecular biology) are quite rusty. Because of that, I'm leaning toward the GRE. What do you think?

Everyone's strengths are different, but the GRE is generally considered to be the easier of the two. If you have a very strong background in the sciences, you may find the MCAT easier.

I'm currently studying for the GRE, my older sister is taking the MCAT tomorrow. From what I can tell I would much much rather take the GRE than the MCAT since I have no desire to re-live memories of physics and organic chemistry. Though I am now having to brush up on math that I haven't done since middle school I think it is preferable. If the science is rusty I'd start building up your vocabulary and go with GRE!

i've taken both: unless you're brain was built backwards, the GRE is LIGHT YEARS easier than the MCAT. The information on the GRE is just more basic. Save yourself the headache, take the GRE. 👍

Absolutely the GRE...I had friends who studied for the MCATs for months and did alright, so-so. I am no genius, and I didn't study at all for the GRE and did well enough to get into several vet schools. Put your money on the GRE.

So about the GRE.....

I need to "start" taking it, but when I went to the web site to find a test date, it gives the option of the "general" and the "subject" tests. Do we take the General one? Does it matter? What has everyone else done?

😕😕😕😕

The general one is the one you need. The only subject test for vet schools is Biology and only OkState and GA require that one in addition to the general test to the best of my knowledge.

the general one is the one that most schools require. The subject tests are only required by a few schools, and are a waste of money unless you apply there (UGA, for instance, requires the Biology Subject GRE)

Thanks for the info! That's why these threads are so great.
