I'm sure this has been done to death but... I am just curious to see how people's study habits differ/stay the same between the MCAT and the USMLE. I am running on the theory that those who spent a year studying for the MCAT will do the same for the USMLE, while those that spent a significantly smaller amount of time on the MCAT will do the equivalent for the USMLE.

The reason I ask is that I have been reading through the pre-med boards. After seeing what some of these poor kids are putting themselves through in terms of hours and weekends lost... it makes me wonder if these are the same people that will be on SDN in 3 years posting the same types of insane study schedules for the USMLE.

Bottom line: is it a study habit thing or a bona fide increase in volume and difficulty that makes the USMLE's so damn scary?
