Can anyone help me out? I graduated from Georgia State University in the fall and am currently working as a chemist. I had a 2.98 GPA and a 3.17 Science GPA with a degree in chemistry. Ive got the DAT on Sept. 7 and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of scores I would need for admission to MCG or Nova. Do you think it is too late to apply? Thanks!!

Well, considering the mean GPA is about 3.4 and the mean DAT is about 18.1, you would need at least a 19 or 20 to be competitive (about the same for Nova). You should get your application in ASAP and wait and see how well you do on the DAT.

has anyone been admitted to MCG? what was you GPA and DAT? Also, can you send in an application without the DAT scores?

MCG interviews Sept-Nov, so no one has been accepted yet.

Yes, but you probably won't get invited until after your scores are known.

To the OP, I'll be honest; your GPA is pretty low for MCG. I think the adcomms use a 3.0 cutoff for non-minority applicants but I could be wrong. And there are always exceptions for everything.

The rumor is that this last year's applicant pool was stacked with 3.9s and 23's. It's pretty competitive, but MCG doesn't do ADSAAS so it's cheap to put in an application and Augusta is only a couple hours drive from pretty much anywhere in GA. Do it and see what happens. MCG is a great school. 🙂

Also, if your grades are good enough you'll be invited without a DAT score. Just be sure to get the test taken before the deadline.

Schools alter the criteria for minority students??

i've actually applied and have similar gpas to u..my DAT is a 21/17 so im just hoping for a longshot..it would be amazing to get accepted there and pay like a fraction of what a school like BU or NYU costs and get to be relatively close to home

well, if there were many 3.9 students and 23 Dat, then that is good bc the average gpa and dat are 3.4 and 17 respectively. This means there must have been quite a few 3.0 students who were accepted. If all those students were minorities, then I have a problem. I hope that's not the case.

georgiadat:

regarding your 3.17 science gpa, is that all the classes AADSAS counts towards your science gpa (like including math and other non BCP classes)? the reason i ask is because on the MCG app they only want your BCP classes which was bad for me cuz that came out to be 2.69 me instead of 2.9 like it is including the other science-related classes..their website says they want a minimum of 2.8 for science and overall but i don't know if they're talking about the gpa on their app or the science gpa including all the other classes...i feel like im chasing pipe dream 🙁

i counted bio 1 and 2. physics 1. gen and org 1 and 2. with labs. if i also count physics 2, then it would be higher because i got an A in that. Does BCP count all those classes or more? thanks mitch.

mitch,
which other schools are you applying to? which ones do you think you have a good shot at?

the schools i've applied to r MCG, Nova, NYU, Columbia, BU, Tufts, Temple, and Pittsburgh..i'd say my best shot is at NYU and BU..i'm just really hoping my DAT scores will make up for my gpa, but we'll see..hey PM me if u need anymore advice 🙂

yeah BCP=biology, chemistry and physics..but what about other upper level sciences? they include those as well..that's pretty much what screwed me cuz i have too many damn Cs..my AADSAS app hasn't been fully processed so i don't know my gpas according to them but im pretty sure if u left out all the sciences i'd have like a 3.5 lol too bad that's not gonna count for much
