Has anyone heard anything from MCG on interviews yet? I know they said they start late August, but I haven't even gotten any correspondence from them and it's already late August. A friend applying to med with them had hers the other day, so I'm wondering if they have looked at dental stuff yet.

i'm wondering when those interviews will start too. sadly, i'm still waiting on an advisor to finish an LOR i asked her to do two months ago. last year they started interviewing early september i think. maybe it was late august. but don't freak out yet cuz they interview all through the fall.

Hi fellow MCG applicants!

Be sure to contact the ADCOMS staff at MCG to ensure they have received all of your admissions material. Unlike just about every other school on the planet, they will not even let you know that they have received it let alone if you are missing any items.

From what I remember, interviews for Dental start after Labor Day. And, they already have an idea of everyone they are going to invite by Labor Day as well.

Best of luck! MCG has become increasingly difficult to gain admission and it is incredibly political.

Yay, fellow MCGers!

Mrs. Perry told me yesterday when I called that my application was complete and now I just have to wait.

From last year though, I got an interview invite via email around the first week in September. My application was submitted on August 12th. That might give some people a reference on the time frame we're talking here.

I can't wait. I have done all I can, and hopefully I can gain admission this year!

Any idea on how much time they give you between invite and interview? I'm at undergrad out of state and need some heads up time to get a flight. Thanks!

you are a georgia resident right? otherwise they won't look at your application...

in any case, I got my email invite like Sept 7th ish, and my interview was around the 27-29th. but they also gave me some other possible options. this was just the date they offered me.

I received my invite to MCG today for September 8th. I guess they give a two week notice. Any one else interviewing then?

I submitted the app. August 13th last year and got an interview invitation on September 7th for the 29th of September. I had to reschedule for October, but right around now we should find out... Also I called to confirm that my application was complete and asked how many have applied so far, the woman said around 155 and that was 2 weeks ago.

This is probably a stupid question, but do our chances increase any as a second time applicant at MCG?

Hey Spikey!

Good question....and the answer is yes, your chances do increase with being a reapplicant. The fact you interviewed last year puts you in an excellent position for this year. Honestly, I am surprised you did not get in last year. From what I heard thru the grapevine, half of the class openings are for reapplicants.

Of course, the chances go down with race, gender, and where you are from in Georgia as they are trying to get more females, more minorities, and stress the importance of being from an underserved area.

I applied last year (obviously did not get in) and was told straight up that living in Cobb County does not help me at all.

Best of luck to you....I am definitely wishing I had some of your stats!

When did you submit your application? Thanks.

Being a Gwinnettian might not help either then.

I guess if half the spots are open for 2nd+ applicants, and there are fewer of those types, then we have a little edge. When did you interview last year?

hmm, my application was confirmed July 05... so maybe I'll get an e-mail soon as well.

keepin' my fingers crossed that they want me this year.

anyone heard anything lately? I bet they didn't do much because of Labor Day, but just curious.

i got an e-mail invite last week for sept 17-18. i'm hoping that as a 2nd time applicant i'll get some extra points! good luck to everybody!

Did they ever send any kind of confirmation about your file being complete? I have called and they said they didn't have everything in the system, so I have been giving it a few more weeks before I called again. I'm just wondering if my file's complete. And when did you get your invite for the 17th - 18th? I need some heads up so I can get back to GA!

they never sent me notice that my appl was complete, i just sent everything in and if i wasn't sure they had gotten something then i called them and asked. they e-mailed me last week around wednesday or thursday about my interview.

First time to SDN.

My interview date is on the 18th.

OK.
so how did it go?
anyone else with interviews at MCG?

it went pretty well ( i think....last year i thought it went pretty well and i didn't get in). they have a really friendly staff and the students are nice too. they've got the paper-less system going in the clinics and it looks very promising. they've set up the comp care system as well and it looks almost like working in a real dental office (minus having an assistant of course). they mentioned that most students leave school with $180 k in debt...i thought it was lower than that. anyone else know how much in loans you need for mcg? they said the first year alone was $40 k.

yeah same situation for me too... kinda hard to gauge how I do at those interviews. I had an interview set up by this time last year, whats going on? I haven't heard a thing.
Thanks for the info though

wtf. Predents.com has 50k as 4 year total tuition at MCG. how is it 40k for 1 year? 40k/year is about the same as private and out of state schools.

40k includes living expenses.

I didn't know it was that expensive to live in Augusta. If that's the case, the living expenses should be as much as going to NYU or Columbia. (+ $80k-$100k/4 years)

i was thinking the same thing. how could it be that expensive? i guess i'll have to go back and do the math.

Would you go to UPenn or MCG? What is the difference in tuition+living expenses+other fees?

i thought that they said the average amount of debt for MCG was just over $100,000... which is a steal compared to a lot of schools.

that's what i originally thought...but now i'm not so sure. if tuition is $40 k the first year alone (and they specifically stated that was tuition and did not include living costs) then even if fees and stuff are a little bit less the other three years you still come to probably $125 k total before living expenses. seems kind of steep.. last year i heard someone say it was more like $80 or $90 k in loans for all four years. if it is close to $200 k for four years then i don't see how that is much better than most other schools.

Are you sure they're not ******ed? Their website says tuition+fees sums up to 10k/year. Then adding in living expenses, depending on where and how you live could probably range from 60k to 90k for all four years. That is if living in Augusta is cheaper than NYC. 🙄

I just interviewed on Friday, and she said the average debt is about $80,000 for graduating seniors, not $180,000. I hope that clears up confusion. She might have mis-spoken that other time.

that sounds more like what i thought it must be. however, i still remember her saying that a Stafford loan gets you about $42 k a year and so that leaves you w/ $2 k extra your first year b/c first year with fees is about $40 k. once again, maybe i've misunderstood.

ok, i am going to post the link to the mcg financial page for dental school.. i guess it breaks down to $20k a year in tuition + fees and then living expenses come to $1500 a month. so i guess first year with living costs comes to $40 k. but after that, and especially fourth year, i think it gets cheaper. so maybe $80k is all you might need, especially if you rent out your house for the masters in the spring and get a scholarship or two. it's a pretty good deal!
