I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about Michigan College of Optometry for this admissions cycle. I applied in August, re took the OAT in December with much better results, and they keep telling me my file is up for re-review by the comittee. Does anyone know how full the class is? I know it's small so I'm starting to freak out because I've already started interviewing at other schools and I know interviews normally stop at the end of March. Any comments or advice would be helpful!

I was interviewed in the beginning of Feb. and they put my application on hold. I was in the same situation as you, i applied in august and retook my OATs early dec. i didnt hear from them til mid jan. And i got interview invites from other schools before that! when i interviewed there they told me there were 29 seats filled. i called them the other day to see wat i can do to get off hold and they said all i can do is wait!!!! They also told me the last interview date was set for march 17th and i will know abt my status by the end of march. at that time they will also make an alternate list. I think you should call them and see what is the current status and if they are done "re-reviewing" the app. since the application deadline is over and all, see wat they say. hope this helps!

A friend/classmate of mine who also applied to MCO got a call less than a week before classes started saying that they had an open spot. With a class that small, anything can happen between now and the fall!

Does anyone know when MCO does their selections for externships? End of 2nd semester 2nd year? Summer of 3rd?

Any students currently in MCO on here? I'd actually rather talk to one of them about it, rather than administration at this point. I'm currently a 2nd year at another optometry school.

I advised you to personally call them because there has been a lack of attention placed on this optometry program for one reason or another on these forums. It is such a small school in comparison to most optometry programs and usually there is very little information stated on the SDN forum regarding MCO. I was the only response to a previous post asking about some general facts pertaining to the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. I feel it would be in your best interest to contact them directly. This is a very easy question for you to ask. It should be even easier for them to answer. Take care.

I heard your advice the first time, and I still don't believe this is the appropriate route for the answers I'm interested in. Since I'm currently enrolled at another school, calling MCO may raise suspicions on both ends of my intentions beyond just curiosity. Maybe you'll understand the politics a little more when you're in a school yourself. Thanks. 🙂

Nobody has to know who you are, tell them you're a prospective student. I honestly don't think they have any students who post on here since they only have 30 something per class.
