I know similar questions have been asked before, but I was recently accepted to MCW-Central Wisconsin and was wondering if a newer, primary-care focused program would impact my options for residency versus going to a DO school. I am interested in primary care, but also could see myself going into a surgical field as I work as a researcher in a surgery-oriented company. MCW's curriculum is compressed into 3 years, with a 4th year option if primary care is not the goal.

I know most people say MD over DO, but is this always the case. I would appreciate any feedback and opinions anyone offers.

MCW 100% no question. If you decide to go primary care you get out in 3 years with an MD degree! Thats a TON of saved money in the long run. Plus, if you decide on surgery, that option is still open to you and you get an MD degree which will help you on that journey. Really, this is a no brainer.

Just to make sure we're on the same page: the three-year track at MCW-CW is not just for primary care.
Please understand that, should you choose to come here, your education can be tailored to fit your goals. We have a number of people interested in surgery (general, plastics, ENT, and cardiothoracic, from what I can gather), who are opting to take a 4th year--but we also have a number of students who match in psychiatry, internal medicine, neurology, and others without taking a 4th year. Faculty and staff will work with you so that you reach you goal, whatever that goal may be.
