MCW-Milwaukee

Pros
  • Really liked my interview day, had a great vibe
  • Solid location, since it’s near an urban, city area but also close to Chicago
  • True P/F
  • Faculty seemed like they truly cared and wanted to work with students
  • Great research opportunities
  • I'm from CA and the fact that MCW has a very strong match rate to CA is extremely appealing to me
  • Great facilities
Cons
  • Very large class size, 200+
  • Will be very very cold (went to school in the midwest so somewhat used to living in snow)
  • COA ~72k
Misc: Misc: traditional curriculum 2+2 (take that how you will as a + or - )

OUWB

Pros
  • Beaumont Health System is fantastic
  • Approx 125 person class size which is perfect
  • Solid match list, however, my goal is CA so idk how well it matches to CA over MCW
  • from my research online, seems that the school has a very collaborative environment, great faculty, and welcoming environment
Cons
  • Not a fan of the location, definitely prefer a city vibe
  • need to go to 70% of lecture to receive Honors (H/P/F preclinical years)
  • Not super strong in research opportunities
  • COA ~84K

I have already got into MCW and received an II to OUWB so basically trying to determine if going to the II is worth it or not. My mind was set on MCW for a while now so getting this II completely came out of nowhere. Would greatly appreciate any and all insight!

MCW is cheaper, plus true pass fail with no required lectures. Also, I'd say MCW is more established overall (OUWB is relatively new, MCW has been around for a very long time and maybe has better name recognition). If you like cities Milwaukee is really cool, plus your only an hour or so from Chicago. I got an interview at OUWB but decided not to go because I had already been accepted to MCW and it was a better fit for me. Go to the interview if you're curious about the school or want a better chance at possibly getting scholarship money. If your mind is set on MCW already, I'd save the travel money.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Ya I had much of the same thoughts but wanted to make sure I did my homework on thinking this through before ultimately deciding. Much appreciated!
