Hi guys! Just received an A from Drexel University College of Medicine! This is my first MD acceptance, and while it is 12 hours from home, I feel I should take it. I have been given 5 days to make a decision, and on the flip side am still waitlisted at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This has been my preferred choice due to proximity to home, and I sent them a LOI. I also noted that Drexel has an accept in good faith policy, so I would not be able to accept there and then withdraw if I do end up getting a spot at MCW. I am having a hard time deciding what to do, and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on how to navigate this situation, or any advice on Drexel as a school! Also, received an acceptance to a DO program that is 20 minutes from home. The only con to Drexel so far for me is location, and vice versa, the only pro for the DO program is location. I have, however, heard some negatives about Drexel class size and clinical sites, so I would love to get more insight!

I mean if you really want to you can wait 4 days and then accept the offer, but go to drexel over midwestern any day of the week. I just graduated and midwestern is trash.

I would reach out to MCW and explain your situation. However by the time you have to accept drexel, i would do so. Dont give up the A to an MD program if you arent guaranteed an A to MCW

Id advise against going to CCOM its extremely expensive and both drexel/mcw would have better opportunities

MCW just had their CTE deadline 3 days ago, so they hopefully should have a clear idea of how many people theyre taking off the WL

Best of luck and congrats future doc!

Whats an accept in good faith policy? Is it binding?
This is what Drexels good faith policy states "
All confirmed students into the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM) are expected to enroll in good faith, meaning that the student fully acknowledges, expects, and intends to enroll and begin coursework in the MD program with the incoming first year class in the fall term as per the DUCOM Admissions Terms and Conditions outlined in their offer letter. By enrolling in good faith, confirmed students:

  1. Acknowledge and agree to fully matriculate with the incoming first year medical student class beginning in the fall term, except for when the student has been granted a deferral to enroll by the Office of Admissions (please see Deferral Policy).
  2. Adhere to the DUCOM Admissions Terms and Conditions as outlined in their official admission offer, as well as the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols for Students (known as “Traffic Rules”).
Confirmed students who do not intend to enroll in good faith will automatically have their offer of admission rescinded, will be withdrawn from the incoming class, and their withdrawal will be reported to the AAMC accordingly. All withdrawal decisions in this matter are final and are not subject to appeal by the admitted student."

Thanks for that! it looks like Drexel's CTE is July 7th, which is pretty late. Are they requiring you commit to enroll in 5 days or only plan to enroll? Unless they are forcing you to CTE in 5 days I don't see how PTE now and wait to CTE till the 7th of July is a violation of this policy. PTE now and waiting till July 7th to CTE gives you lots of time to get off that MCW waitlist

Thank you soo much for this information. The option on the site says yes I want to hold my acceptance or no I want to decline. I guess it is a little tricky because it does not say commit to enroll or plan to enroll it just says hold my acceptance. I could reach out to the school to see what exactly it means especially being this late in the cycle and do not want to lose this opportunity by saying the wrong thing!

is there anywhere on your offer letter that says you must CTE within five days? if there isnt I would just PTE personally. Definitely good to clarify with the school as well.

I am an M3 at Drexel. Accept your seat and PTE (I believe the website says CTE deadline is the last Monday of June btw - but admissions will probably also send a reminder). Don't lose your MD A.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have about Drexel. I moved from the West Coast to Drexel and had a great time my first two years and am still having a good time as an M3. I haven't really noticed our class size besides at the White Coat ceremony when 304 names were called.
