Surely, there are a few attendings on this forum that are either senior partners or partners in their respective groups, which does constitute entrepreneurship to an extent.

However, is anyone doing anything significantly DIFFERENT, on the side? That is, aside from simply investing in the more traditional "securities" (equities, bonds, commodities, precious metals, currency etc.), is anyone operating (even passively) their own business?

Just curious, and you don't have to be specific if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

I'm working on a medical education project in my spare time, it's a study-aid series unlike anything out there currently. I just hired a team of freelancers to help with the project. I hope to publish something by this fall.

I ran for a spot on the Board of Directors of a $50-100M/yr company, and I'm thinking about getting an MBA through an Executive MBA program. Medicine is interesting, and pays the bills, but it's nice to have some other options, and interests (outside of skiing and sailing, of course). I like politics as well, but I would be done at the first debate after my opponent spins his first line of twisted half truths and other fantasy BS and I call him out as a lying opportunist. I think that I would probably alienate the undecided voters.😉

my old man went in with a few other gas docs on a small cluster of budget lined hotels, and a few private properties that lease out to surgicenters and dialysis centers. started with one and built up from there. it's a nice bonus to the yearly income, and in 10-15 years when the hotels sell each partner will probably see a minimum 30%-40% profit on their investment

I will not name names, but my sis completed her residency in IM and then started on a writing career many years ago while her husband paid the bills. She now earns mid-seven figure income, multiple new york times bestsellers. Down side is that I might guess that she is stressed by deadlines and feels compelled to keep working even though she has more than enough to retire.

Another funny thing is that her husband also trained in IM and retired from his practice years ago, so his investment in her has paid off.
