Hi everybody! I'm graduating from a DO school this year, and am in the process of applying to Neurology Residency programs. Does anyone know which schools I should basically cross of the list because they are alot less likely to accept DO's? It seems like Jackson Memorial in Miami is one of those schools, as they don't accept DO's for away rotations. I've also heard UCSD is not very 'DO-friendly' either...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you all as always!

It is pretty cheap to apply to each program.

I would just apply where you are interested, and then if you get an interview assume they are interested and the DO degree is not a factor.

It's true that there are a lot of programs that don't have DO residents. The reasons why are unclear. Part of it is numbers, there are a lot more MD grads than DO grads each year.

It will be VERY hard for a DO to match at NYU. I know this for sure. He/She who is a DO must be at the top of his/her class, with the best scores and publications in order to even be considered for match at NYU.

Agreed

Applying broadly is always a good idea no matter who you are. Remember that where you do your residency has a lot of influence on your subsequent career. You've spent a lot of time, money and energy to get to where you are, don't be stingy when apply for residency. Apply to top programs where you want to go and also apply to programs that have a track record of accepting people like you (In this case, DOs). I'm a DO, and when I applied in 2006 I applied to >20 programs. I got a number of interview invitations to good and even great programs, a few rejections and a number of programs who never got back to me either way.

One of the programs who rejected my app was a so-so program that I had just applied to as a back up (and it went unfilled that year). Others that offered me an interview were excellent programs. It's hard to tell by looking at a program whether or not they'll offer you an interview and subsequently how they will rank you. Apply broadly and strategically. Apply to top programs and good programs.

Thank you guys for the information...any idea about neurology residencies in California? Specifically Socal? I'd really like to go to USC, and am doing an 'audition rotation' there in November...
