MD/PhD chances for next cycle?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Info: Senior Biology major at an Ivy (Texas Resident)

GPA: cGPA:3.55 sGPA:3.55

MCAT: balanced 34

EC: Volunteering at a free clinic for 2 years, currently shadowing, many leadership and mentoring positions

Awards: Writing awards from the English department

Research: 2 summers and 1.5 academic years of research (~30hrs/wk) (planning on an additional summer and year of research during applications), 2 publications (no first author), several poster and oral presentations.

I expect strong letters of recommendation and am currently working on my personal statement.

I will also designate as disadvantaged and am a URM if that helps.

I currently have 23 schools on my list most of which are in Texas along with several higher ranked schools in the northeast. Does this kind of list sound reasonable?

Is there any way to improve my application, I am afraid my stats may be a bit mediocre?

Your GPA could ideally be a little higher (3.7ish), but other than that your stats are excellent. Apply to a variety of high/less competitive programs, but I imagine you would get offers from most of the less competitive place and also several of more competitive programs. With those stats and Texas resident you should get offers at all those schools and Ivy connection is good for NE.

Thank you all for the feed back.
Hopefully my GPA will be a bit higher after this year though I doubt it can surpass 3.6 at this point given how few classes I have left.
I will continue my reaserch this following year post graduation.
I am glad that it sounds like my chances are better than I thought.

There is an AMCAS book for admission officers that includes the mean and standard deviation for all AMCAS - MD and MD/PhD - applicants and matriculants for all schools in the US as long as there were a minimum of 5 people at that school contributing with data. There are several well known schools with lower GPAs due to lack of grade inflation, and some other with historical GPA inflation. This is an useful tool for MD and MD/PhD admissions. PM me with your college, and I will provide you the numbers for your institution.
