Hi there
I am an international student from Turkey, and I am doing my master's degree on biochemistry. I am planning to graduate this coming spring.
I have read the messages posted and thought that you might give me some ideas, or may be you know some people who are international students and got into MD/PhD programs.
My GPA is 3.80 now (hopefully won't drop ) I have a published review paper in a medical journal in Turkey, and this semester I will be attending two conferences, and may be publishing my research soon. I can tell that I have quite a bit research expreience in Molecular Biology and Genetics and Cell Biology, and improving my Biochemistry.
Since I haven't taken MCAT yet, I missed the application for 2004, and I'll be applying for 2005. I am just starting to study for MCAT.
I worked in a Gynecology Department in Turkey for 2 years working on Diagnostic Cytology as a part of the clinical research.
I know that similar questions have been asked and been answered, but I want to ask you what it really boils down to get accepted to medical school as an international student. I know that it is easier if you are a resident, but which one is the most important part of your application as an international student to be accepted. I will be volunteering next semester, is that very important? What is the optimal length for voluteering?
Do you know anyone who got accepted without holding a residency?
I am just sooo confused, and a tiny bit of experience of yours is even enough....or at least looking at my profile -excepts taking the MCAT - what looks like missing?
Thank you for your patience reading my questions, and I hope you will be replying to my message.
Best regards,
Hagakure.
