There was a lot of talk about making a list of frequently asked questions about the MD/PhD program here at SDN. I don't know if it's in the works, but just in case....

For those with questions about the MD/PhD and MSTP programs, this may be a good starting point. It is the best document of it's kind that I found.

PDF file .

Thanks alot for posting that. Some of the info about the average stats and average number of apps was interesting. I also liked the part about how it is best not to be a "clock-watcher" if you are considering MD/PhD.

over the past few weeks/months vader/jpaikman and i have been putting together an exhuastive centralized resource for mstp stuff - including the mstp guide that vader had originally put together - and lots more goodies including a huge FAQ (which i hope you'll comment on shortly) and program reviews ... and more. coming soon....

 I know, I liked that part, too.

Hey, jot - I was hoping you guys were still working on that! Thanks and keep us posted!!!

I think a better guide may be MD/PhD only because MSTP is NOT the only way to get an MD/PhD.

Just my 2 Cents.............................

That is a point well taken. When producing my original guidebook, I intentionally made it a point to refer to "MD/PhD" rather than using the term "MSTP". There was even a chapter discussing the differences between MSTPs and other non-MSTP MD/PhD programs.

Our hope is that this new site will provide an even greater resource for the large number of MD/PhD applicants who have questions about the process and what MD/PhD is all about. We are working hard to make it accessible to all applicants and beneficial in terms of both general advice and specific information on various programs.

Stay tuned... 😀

Yeah, I have to agree too. The MSTP elitist attitude I am starting to see from my mudphud peers is a little bit disheartening.

I think this is a very noble route regardless of where you matriculate. I think the fact that all of us are bothering to go the extra mile for deeper understanding is outstanding.

Isn't it all about finding the best fit? I still think so.

It doesn't matter to me if you go to the "best" or the "worst" program, I still think you are all awesome. I don't mentally rank any of you or the programs higher based on your credentials.

As my future colleagues, I hope you will do the same for me and not assume that I am less of a scientist or person because I chose to go to a smaller, less-established MD/PhD program.
