hey guys..i know this guy that is applying to like 50 medical schools this summer for the MD/PhD program (seriously...50.)

the thing is, he is an international student (which im sure you all know that med schools rarely accept internationals into the regular MD route). i think his MCAT is pretty average for an accepted applicant (not sure the exact number, but i dont think its like a stellar 33 or something like that) and his grades are probably around 3.7 or 3.8

i heard there are only like 300 spots for MD/PhD programs in the ENTIRE nation.

i kind of feel bad for this guy b/c he is spending so much money to apply to 50 schools and i think there is very very little chance of him getting into an MD/PhD program. what do you guys think?

i believe there are over 500 md/phd spots; however, only a select group of schools will accept internationals. there are schools that reserve 1 spot for them.

i also think it depends on what sort of "international." canadian? permanent resident? college degree in the us?

before blindly applying, your "friend" needs to contact the admissions committees with his/her specific situation and see if they will consider the application (regardless of merit).

33 is on the low-average end for MSTPs. Below would def. be on the low side.
