Hey all,

I'm writing with a question that is frequently posted/answered on MD only threads, but I'm not sure if the same applies to MD/PhD (MSTP) as well. I've been waitlisted at several programs, but one in particular is my favorite. I emailed an update letter previously (although I sent it to the secretary, not the director or administrative director) and haven't heard anything back but have not been in contact since. I'm not sure of how many people this school waitlists. I know that second look hasn't happened yet for this school. I guess I have a couple of questions:

1. Should I email a formal "I will go here if you let me in" letter? If so, when (now? After their second look? Before April 30th) and to whom (the director or the secretary)?

I don't have any more to update, so this would be a re-iteration of my interest. I have several other acceptances of a similar caliber to this school but the overall fit of this school is far and away the best, and I feel strongly that this would be the best place for me. I can't figure out if they hate update letters or not--they make no mention of this on their website.

2. I get the sense waitlist movements vary wildly by program and year. Does anyone have an idea of what it's like this year based on any numbers? Is it okay to ask this place about my spot on a waitlist? I know someone who currently is a member of this MD/PhD program, so I may ask him, but I also don't know if he will have an answer.

I'm aware these are very vague questions, and if they're unanswerable, I guess that's also good to know instead of just twiddling my thumbs and wondering. Thanks for any help and hope this year is gong well for everyone!

There are still ~125 people with no MD/PhD acceptances who will eventually get them over the next 10 weeks or so for the class enrolling in 2015. Out of the 650 applicants with MD/PhD acceptances as of Friday, over half have multiple acceptances right now including ~45 with at least 5 MD/PhD acceptances. Most of their decisions and the domino effect will happen in 2-3 weeks, after all, the deadline to decline other acceptances (just keeping one acceptance) is April 30. Between May 1 - 30, most of the acceptances from the waitlist will happen for those applicants. I hope that this description gives these applicants feel a little more hope. I think a Match is better for programs and applicants.

Thank you Fencer for your posts, they are always encouraging.

Hang in there - I'm with you in the waitlist!

*Edited* - seemed like a negative post

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm in the same position. A few days ago I got an email saying that the program won't be able to make any final decisions until early May, but then asked me what labs I would like to rotate in over the summer if I get accepted. Is this a regular email for people on the waitlist? Good news or bad news?

Call the school's dean/program director. They might be able to give you a straight answer
