Hi sorry if this has been answered before, I just couldn't find an answer anywhere in the forums. I'm good friends with my orthopedic doctor who did two knee surgeries for me and he's writing me a LOR, and I'm using that for my MD applications, and I'm in the process of getting a DO rec for my DO applications. My question is, when choosing what recommendation letters to send in with my applications, is it okay to send an MD recommendation to a DO school or vice versa? Or should I just stick with my MD recs for MD apps and DO recs for DO apps?

It's fine to send either one to either one🙂 Some DO schools require at least one letter of rec from a DO, but it usually mentions that on the app.

A letter from your personal physician is not a useful letter at all (unless u shadowed or did research with him which u didn't mention in your OP)

Oh, yeah I glossed right over that.

Someone who only knows you as a patient can't be expected to speak for your capabilities as a physician.
