Good evening,

I have a quick question regarding update letters. I'm a current MD applicant (LM 70, ORM) complete at 14 schools, still waiting for II. About a month and a half ago, I accepted a clinical position as an 'MA Runner' at a local clinic. Basically, I'm doing MA stuff like rooming patients, taking vitals, etc. but I'm not a certified MA. I'd say this is a major update to my application, because my one gap is clinical hours. Is it too early to send an update letter to two of my top schools?? I've already written them and tied this experience into the Schools mission. I wanted to wait until I had ample experience before sending one, but now it's been some time, and I feel confident that I have enough under my belt for this to be a solid update.

Thanks for the input!!

The main utility of clinical hours is to help make the case that you know what patient care environments are like and you want to build your career in them. When you submitted your AMCAS application you essentially plead your case without these "MA Runner" hours. Filling a known gap with them after the fact is therefore probably not going to be as helpful as you would hope. I agree with @Goro on this one.
