Are there any pros and cons between these two degrees for research?

Which would look better for getting a faculty position at a medical school: MD with a year or two post-doc/fellowship in neuroscience or a PhD in neuroscience?

One big advantage I can see is that the PhD saves a ton of money (but then again, there are those loan repayment offers that the NIH gives).

One advantage the MD will have is the ability to get a doctorate and do a year or two research post-doc/fellowship in the same time (around) it would take to get a PhD (or am I wrong about this? It does take around 5-6 years to get a PhD in neuroscience, correct?).
