I just thought I would offer this advice even if you might know it already.
I was at mini med yesterday and during the small group session Q&A, one of the med students told us that schools keep track of any e-mails you send them pertaining to your intentions to apply. She said that before she applied she just sent an e-mail to an admissions counselor informing them of her intentions to apply and for any advice regarding her CV.
When she did apply and receive an interview, they were flipping through her file and said "I see you have been in contact with us for a few years..."
I thought that was interesting.
